Glue Line Appears Cracked Through The Finish
My last two projects have yeilded glue lines that appear cracked through the finish. I use yellow glue and Enduro Pre Cat waterborne finish. I fill with Crystalac. This process has produced excellent results for the last several years. Now these “cracks” appear on some of the glue lines. Some are as they have always been. It is as if the finish is repelled from some of the glue lines.
Is anyone willing to share how they solved this problem?

you have a delamination at those points. is that an anti-slip finish that you have applied?

Wood movement
There could be a dozen reasons - but most obvious is highly figured wood next to plain sawn -

Hi All
This could be joint failure or it could be the fact that water borne finishes don't like to stick to yellow glue. Look close, is there any glue on the surface? If this is furniture, use hide glue, and shellac base Good luck Randy
glue line crack
I think you have a "ledge" where the two pieces of wood meet. It was flush initially and then moved due to different rates of expansion in the two woods due to moisture variation. The glue is plastic enough to allow a certain amount of movement without cracking. I don't believe your joint is cracked. It is just displaced a small amount and will continue to move as moisture content varies. I have seen this issue when both pieces were the same species, but cut with the grain oriented differently at the joint. The difference in expansion/contraction between radial and tangential grains is enough to cause this issue.
Best regards, Tom
