I recently laminated a “U” shaped curve….16″ radius, 16″legs….dimensions 2.5×2.5″.
I used approx 40 strips of 1/16″ thick african mahogany and yellow glue.
2 months later the legs have pulled together (yes together!) over 2″! …no sign of slippage…anyone know what’s goin’ on????
thx!

clp,
Shrinkage, from all the moisture from the glue in all those layers leaving the glue-up over the past two months?

yeah, with all those lams, there was a ton of glue......shame on me for being lazy and used water based titebond!!!....thanks for your help and advice!.......cheers, mark
Sounds like shrinkage. Have you ever rolled up a poster and needed to fit it in a tube? If you put your fingers in the end and twirl it tighter from the inside, the diameter of the rolled poster gets smaller. I imagine that as the layers of your laminate shrank, something analogous happened.
