I am a novice in most areas of finishes, and I want to try using a glase on a current project. Does one buy a “glaze” , or simply apply a gel stain between a sealer coat and a finish coat? Are glazes sold ready to use, or must I concoct my own? If available, where? Just some basic info that will get me started without having to go into the” research” mode…. Many thanks for your help! Hadley

Hadley,
You can use a gel stain as a glaze over a sealer coat. They dry pretty quick so I would suggest you thin it out with some mineral spirits to give yourself a little extra working time.
Have a soft brush on hand to help blend it in.
You can buy a "glaze" like Ben Morre Studio Glaze that is an uncolored medium to which you add color. This can be anything from artists colors, gel stains etc.
Be sure and practice your new found technique on some good size sample boards. If you fail to do this there is a good chance you will need to go into "research mode" to learn how to correct it.
