glass panel bit set for 1″ thick doors
Well if nothing else I’ve learned a valuable lesson tonight. I got out the sommerfield glass panel bit set I got back in Feb at the local wood show. I’m finally at the end of the project and only need to make the doors. I get it out and can’t seem to make the thing work out and now I know why. It appears that the set will only do doors up to 13/16 thick. A little detail I neglected to notice. Anyway does any other vendors make a set that can handle a door panel up to 1″ thick? Secondly, anybody want to buy a set with no use on it. It was a darn expensive lesson. Oh well life goes on.

bones,
A glass panel bit is the same thing as a rail and stile bit set, except that it cuts a rabbet instead of a groove, right? I know that Freud sells a rail and stile bit for passageway doors but don't know if they have a smaller one. Hope this helps.

I know there is a freud guy on here from time-to-time, so i'm hoping he will see this thread. Thanks.Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.
Well I guess I had a duh moment. I was in the shop fuming over spending that much and not haveing what I needed when it dawned on me that I could just run it across the ts to cut the extra off. The problem was the rabbit side of the bit was undercutting the entire thickness by about a 3/16" . I set the ts fence with the blade up about a 1/4" and run the test piece across and you can't hardly tell it did not get cut with the router bit. Bingo she's ready to go. Extra step that I had not planned on but it will get-r-done. Sometimes a perceived problem just needs a step away and refresh the cells so to speak.
