I am looking at the General International 80-100L-M1. Anyone have any feedback on this machine’s performance? Thanks, Andy from Georgia

I've seen it at the stores, and have had pleasant dealings with GI on other machines, but have not used the jointer. It's a similar design to machines like the Jet, PM, Griz, Bridgewood, etc. It has longer beds than other 6" jointers in it's price class, and gets really positive comments from users.

I bought that jointer a year ago. I bought it at a local wood show at a discount. It was set up for demonstration at the show, so I had the advantage of a "tuned in" jointer when I got it home. I have no other machine to compare it with so my observations are suspect.
I had one hell of a time replacing the knives and getting them level. (Impossible?) From my investigations, there is a technique to it so I must persevere. I did test some recently jointed edges for edge jointing and they were perfect.
I will buy a "jointer pal" magnetized guide to assist and see if that helps. Before replacing blades, the jointer worked super, until I knicked a staple in the end of a board.
Vibration is low. Dust collection is excellent as long as you have a 4" hose and appropriate dust collector (I had to buy one - my shop vac didn't get the job done).
The manual is next to useless.
I am concerned that the fence appears to have become distorted. I recently tried to square the fence and could see light in the middle of my square placed against the fence.
