I am looking at the General 17″ bandsaw to buy. Has anyone had any experience with the General tools? Any info would be helpful.
Thanks in advance

FWW did a review and rated it highly. It is Italian made with a US motor I understand,
Thanks for your reply. I will do a search for it on their web site. I was unaware that it was made in Italy. The distributor is in Quebec Canada is all I was able to find out.
Genreal has two lines....a Canadian made one (the plates just say General), and a General International line, with tools made overseas. I don't have any International tools, but for certain tools I would definitely consider them. I'm running twenty or so Canadian made General tools, and have nothing but good things to say about them....best in class in my opinion. One of those tools is a 15" Canadian made Genreal bandsaw.....suggest you compare prices etc. with the International one. The Canaidan one is not cheap, but it is a very good saw.cabinetmaker/college woodworking instructor. Cape Breton, N.S
If I'm not mistaken I believe the 17" General is under the General International line and is made in China or Taiwan. After having had a good look at it and the Grizzly, I believe they come from the same factory. The notable difference is that the General does have beefier wheels than the Grizzly. I haven't used the saw, but each of the 6 sales guys I spoke to about the saw (on separate occassions), said they would choose the Canadian made General 15" saw before looking at the 17".
