Hello, My name is Bob
I’m building a home and I purchased a fiberglass front door and I used a
Min-wax mahogany colored gel stain. When I was done the finish was blotchy
and there was a few dark spots in the corners. I
tried to even things out a little by putting a little mineral spirits on my
wiping rag….I think it made things worse. I was told to let it dry and
sand it out a little with some 220 grit and give
it another coat….Whats your take on it? Any help greatly appreciated..
Thank you, Bob

Bob,
You can try a light sanding and touch up but if it were me, I'd wash it down and start over.
I don't think mineral spirits will touch it for removal. I suggest you try some denatured alcohol. Have a lot of paper towels and rags for this and do small areas at a time.
I don't use gel stains personally but try something besides minwax. I don't have a lot of faith in that companies products.
Let me know how the washing goes ( if that's what you do)
Peter
Thank you peter,
I will try the wipe down versus the sanding, Thank you again. I will let you know how it goes.
P.S . I noticed you are in CT. I am as well. Enjoy the humidity.
Bob
Where in Ct? I never enjoy the humidity, I'm built more for the cold weather
Peter
I'm Building in Oxford.
I never like this humidity either, I'm ready for winter my-self. Thanks for your advise as well, It worked great. Now I can move on to bigger and better things. I havent touched my wood working tools in about 9 months, cant wait to finish the house.
Thanks again.
