Greetings Knots:
I’m pleased to announce that today we are officially launching our newest blog devoted to learning SketchUp. It’s called Design. Click. Build. and it is being moderated by three woodworkers and experienced CAD designers who have proven to be very talented with SketchUp and very generous with their knowledge.
Two of the contributors come straight out of the Knots forum: Bob Babcock, who has been posting video tutorials for the past few months to the satisfaction of many of you, and Dave Richards, who has twice sent me wonderful SketchUp drawings of some recent FWW projects. The third contributor is Tim Killen, who has produced two project articles on FWW.com using SketchUp.
This blog is designed to be very interactive so I hope all of you who are remotely interested in learning SketchUp will visit regularly, contribute ideas, and most of all take advantage of the great knowledge these three moderators will be sharing.
I’m extremely excited about this. I believe it could be the first of more blogs to be born out of Knots.
Cheers,
Matt Berger

I went to the blog and all I can say is Wow! Nice job folks. So now I downloaded it and the stuff I wanted to do today will have to wait.
Cheers,
Peter
FANTASTIC!! Thanks Matt and all contributors!!!!
Matt,
that's excellent news. I've really enjoyed the SketchUp tutorials that have been posted here.
However, I must paraphrase Inigo Montoya from the Princess Bride regarding your use of the word chagrin: "I do not think it means what you think it means." Chagrin is disquietude or distress of mind caused by humiliation, disappointment, or failure. While I am certainly humbled by Bob's superior knowledge, I have been delighted by the many tutorials that he has posted.

Thanks for the correction. I don't know why I thought "chagrin" meant the exact opposite as it does, other than the fact that it sounds like a happy word. - MB
Heh, I hadn't thought of the "happy word" angle.Say, while I've got your attention and am thinking of the Blogs section, what's going on with your coffee table?"Light the lamp, not the rat! Light the lamp, not the rat!!"

Since my last post I glued up the leg joinery, but I've been so overwhelmed with work over the past few weeks that I haven't had a chance to get back into the shop. I'll try to get some updated photos online this week.

"I hadn't thought of the "happy word" angle." Must be the grin part. ROFL!forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
Good job, Matt. I've been playing with Sketchup for a while, knowing there's a multitude of helpful things I haven't found. This will be great to have.
thanks,
Jerry
This is an great site, I have learned a lot from it. As stated many times, Sketchup is not a Cad program, I use Autosketch personally. The reason I like Sketchup is for mock ups. You can create a 3d version quickly and place it in the room, or environment it will end up in.

Matt,
At one time, I used to be savy with computers (if you can believe that), but I think my age is getting the better of me. I was born into a pre-internet world, where "geeks" hung out all night on these things called BBS's, eating stale pizza, untill a drunk dorm mate knocked the phone out of the 110buad handset coupler modem.
Ok, maybe I'm not that out dated. Afterall, I have and maintain my own website, and even know how to work a CAD program or two. So, with all of that said, what exactly is a Blog? I get the whole forum thing - it reminds me of the old BBS format. But I still havn't embraced the Blog, and that leaves me in a dilema: I really like what this Sketchup program can do, and I want to learn it. But the Blog... I just dont get it.
Can you help me understand, and embrace the blog?
Gregory
I think of them as on-line diaries, but they're really more than that, especially with something like a woodworking blog. Part of the definition seems to be the order of presentation. Some are interactive, some are not. Here's the Wikipedia entry on blogs.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
Hi Greg.A blog is really just a simple template for building a Web site. It is unique in that each new entry is posted in chronological order with the newest post showing up at the top of the page, and visitors can post comments to each entry. Basically, that's it. Everything else a blog does a Web site does.I would rather use the term "easy-to-build Web site" but I suppose that wasn't as catchy of a term as "blog." So many millions of people have embraced blogs because they give people the ability to operate a Web site with simple tools and very little maintenance. Once you get the hang of reading through it, it's really no different than clicking around a Web site.- Matt
