I’ll be in the Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Taos areas for about a week. Is there anything furniture-related that is a “must see” there?

Take a look at the Shidoni Art Gallery in Tesuque, a few miles north of Santa Fe on Bishop Lodge Road. They had a number of interesting pieces. When you get tired of that go over and wander through the foundry and they still may have a cast bronze table, a very expensive gift for the Dali Lama. Mostly look at the old doors and carved beams, found all over. My brother had a few interesting Mexican pieces, which of course heavily flavors the region.
And for seeing the unusual go to see the "Earthships" just beyond the Rio Grande gorge bridge north of Taos. It's a series of houses fashioned from earth, concrete and cast off materials welded together into a fascinating development that is "off the grid."
Mostly have fun.

An interesting place to stay in Taos if you are interested in the earth ships ( which this isn't really but same flavor ) is

Be warned it is kind of like living in a submarine. The smaller rooms are extremely small. But inexpensive and super beautiful. Hand painted tiles in the showers ( down the hall if you have small room ). Pretty hippy dippy but nice/quality in every way. There is a shrine to Jerry Garcia in one of the adobe wall niches.
Can rent bicycles right from the premises. Down town/plaza of Taos walking distance away. Great place to eat breakfast on the walk to down town. We love it. May want to call ahead for reservation and be sure it is still as I present it here. Has been a while.
Laughing Horse is on the main drag so if you are a light sleeper you may want something out side of town. Or if you are in the habit of swinging a cat when you wake up.
Hagon Das and fresh baked goods available in the community kitchen at all hours. Wine too and free video library to take back to your room just write it on your room card on the honor system.

If your in taos you must go see the work of Nicoli Fechin. My shop is halfway between SF and taos, in espanola. We specialize in old world funiture, but now we'll do anything. Economy is tough right now. Omar.
