I am looking for plans for building a King size French Sleigh Bed. Also need information on proper method of getting the curvature associated w/this design on the headboard & footboard. I see from the latest ‘FWW’ issue an advertisement from Taunton Books for a new book called ‘Beds’ written by Jeff Miller. Has anyone seen this book & if so, are such plans included in the book? Thanks in advance for your input.

I have the book and it is excellent. I built the pencil post bed out of it and instructions were comprehensive and easy to understand.
Yes it does have a sleigh bed in it.
You can read somemore about it on Amazon.com

*Dale:I designed and built a sleigh bed for my daughter as a wedding gift. Unfortunately, I don't have a scanner, so I am unable to show it to you.Because I wanted the head and footboards to follow the graceful contours of the side pieces, I constructed 'lamination presses'. These were quite involved and very cumbersome. The basic idea is to cut a number of ribs which follow the contour of the side pieces, The ribs were cut from 5/8 particle board, and were placed approx. 12 in. apart. They were secured to a 2x4 on each side and in the middle. There were two presses for both head and footboards, four total. I laminated three pieces of 1/8" oak plywood to construct each section. Each plywood piece was coated with glue and pressed together, using considerable clamping pressure. I glued one board at a time. I experimented with various glues and decided to use urethane glue. It worked quite well, and the bed turned out great. Feel free t o contact me if you have questions.
