I have a Deco dining table which is burl with the original French Polish (shellac) finish. It has suffered a bit and I would like to relevel and restore the FP finish.
Does anyone know who could attempt this work? It is a very valuable piece, and i do not want to use it as a ‘learning experience’.
Thanks for your help.

JA Mike,
There are a number of folks that actively participate and a few that I know who "lurk" here that are capable of such work.
Since this forum has a policy against self promotion and solicitation it would be unwise and unethical for any one to step forward to offer their services.
My only recommendation would be to check with a reputable dealer of antique furniture for references for someone in your area who is capable of restoration work and have the piece looked at to verify that such work should even be attempted without affecting it's value.
Generally speaking, refinishing an antique will completely destroy it's value and is used only as a last resort or by those who have little knowledge about antique furniture. Even a minor restoration can have a negative impact on it's value. There is a huge difference between restoration work and refinish work. FWIW.

*Thank you, Danforth. It is my intention to, if possible, restore the EXISTING finish. This is an elegant English piece off of the QEI, and needs the right craftsman to do the work. Thanks, again.JA Mike
*JA Mike,You are most welcome, I am sorry I could not be of more help. The piece sounds most interesting. Perhaps a search of the Smithsonian's website would be beneficial to you: http://www.si.edu. Good luck.Dano
