I would like to hear some updated thoughts on planers. Please focus on floor models. I am curious to read peoples thoughts on models like the “Jet JWP-16OS 16″ 3 Hp Floor Model Planer w/ open stand ($999.99)” or the “Grizzly G0453 15″ 3 Hp Floor Model Planer w/ enclosed stand ($775.00)” Powermatic; Delta ect. Also, if anyone has any articles that may help, please let me know.
Thanks,
Scott

I thought I might send a note to reactivate this posting, because I'm looking at the same planers. I'm planning on buying mine in May when ACME has their spring sale, so hopefully you get some feedback.
I have a Delta 15". I've owned and operated many planers including industrial models. The Delta is a first class planer. Fully adjustable. The outfeed roller tables are a big improvement over previous designs and they fold out of the way easily. Serrated infeed roller and a soft outfeed. Good quality knives. One issue is the dust collection hood, which is often sold as an extra. It's designed to take a 5" connection and typical 4" plastic fittings and reducers won't work without modification. Reasonably quiet for a planer, rock solid. I looked hard at every planer available. My long term experience with Delta equipment has been superb. If I had to do it again, I'd buy the Delta.
Beat it to fit / Paint it to match
I posted my impressions on the Powermatic 15S planer that I took delivery of a month ago.

I recently bought a used JET 16" planer and couldn't be happier with it. GREAT machine. I've run some oak and maple through it and it doesn't skip a beat, motor doesn't give any indication it's bogging down, NONE.
I was very careful when I aligned the infeed and outfeed roller tables. No snipe, NONE and surface finish smooth as a baby's bottom, no sanding required. Also, very quiet for a 3 HP planer. Only caveat is you'll need a chip collector or the chips will clog the chip chute pronto! My shop vac wasn't up to the task, I added a JET chip collector to keep up with the output....
Money well spent...

Hi Scott,
I owned a Delta DC-380, 15 inch 3 hp cast iron Taiwanese built planer that I sold after I purchased my Minimax planer/jointer. Overall, the Delta was a really nice machine, plenty of power and really did a nice job surfacing lumber, the only issue was the dust hood was a hokie piece of plastic that cracked after the first month I owned the machine.
Best of Luck
