I have four large mahogany crotch panels I need to veneer. The veneer is very brittle and I need to flatten it first. Has anyone used the super-soft 2 veneer softner? or any other products like it.
I need a solution that wont affect the stain or hide glue I will be using.

I flatten crotches by brushing on very thin hot hide glue (both sides) and wrap them in plastic and press between boards. I let the veneer out of the clamps and plastic a couple times a day for short periods, over a period of about a week, or until they are fairly dry. I have only used this method for hammer veneering, so I don't know how compatible it would be with other methods.
The hide glue will soften even very brittle and wavy crotches, and has the added benefit of completely saturating the veneer with glue, which stabilizes it. (it will still check and craze over time).
