Hello everyone,
I am buuilding a couple of jewlery boxes for christmas. I am making them out of fiddleback maple and quilted maple. What would you use to finish them. I want to bring out the figure in the wood as much as possible and create a very high shine. Any help will be appriciated.
Thanks
Trevor Riggs

Just me so.. Be careful..
Shellac and Minwax Finishing Wax works for me..
I told her it was 'hand rubbed' in my shop.. She responded.. Why not me?
Aniline Dye for color. Lacquer for topcoat.
The dyes are easy enough. I use powder form mixed with water. For lacquer, I use M.L. Campbell. Their "Magnalac" is a pre-catalyzed lacquer that would be fine for a non-durable item like your jewelry boxes. An alternative lacquer would be Deft - suitable for brushing (and rubbing out).
Nothing builds quite like lacquer and it does wonders for fiddleback.
Regards.
