Thin the first coat or two to about 50% lacquer thinner to 50% polish. Spray a light 'spit' coat each time. Follow up with one or two coats at normal strength. This is my prefered routine.
An alternative would be to spray a first coat of shellac which is the polish most tolerant of oily woods or less than ideal surfaces. I recommend a dewaxed shellac as it's least likely to cause adhesion problems with all types of film forming polishes later.
For me a thinned out coat or two of pre-cat as a base coat has always worked fine on teak and other oily woods and it saves bringing in another type of polish to the equation. Slainte.
