I have some small pieces (2″x2″ to 2″x8″) that I want to finish on all sides with Danish oil. I’d like to do it in one step, i.e., not do top and sides and then later do bottom. How do people do this sort of thing without getting fingerprints everywhere? These have holes so I can hang them, but in the absence of holes how do you lay pieces down while still wet?
As you can tell, I am new to woodworking. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

I use a nail board. Take a piece of scrap board and drive a bunch of nails through it so they all stick up. The spacing of the nails should suit the size of your work. Your finished pieces just rest on the nails.
*Ditto on the nail board technique. For an example, see Jeff Jewitt's article in FWW #131, p. 48--"Putting a Finish on Small Objects. . ."
*Thanks to you both. I'll look up the article in FFW.- Don
