Hi,
I’m buiding a red oak dining table with plywood top and the rest solid red oak. so one of my questions is how to keep the colors consistant.
How is the following for compatibility and sequence?
One- Famowood filler
Two- General Finishes oil based stain- “Warm Cherry”
Three- Behlen Rock Hard thinned for wiping.
Four- Wax
Thanks for any wisdom,
Tom

Tom,
Stain first. Let it dry well. A couple of days is not out of the question.
I would washcoat the oak with a 5050 mixture of SealCoat prior to filling.
When filling you can make the pores stand out by making the filler darker than the stain or you can make the filler close to the color of your stain. Be sure to remove all excess from the surface (that which is not in the pores) or you will end up with grey patches after you finish
Apply the varnish coats at least a day or more apart sanding lightly in between coats with 320 or 400 as required.
Let it cure at least 5-6 weeks prior to waxing.

Thanks, Peter. What's meant by wash coat?
Tom
The shellac is mixed 5050 and applied. This thin coat is a washcoat
