I am building a arts and crafts Morris Chair out of quarter sawn red oak. How can I finish it to look like the classic Mission style finish. Should I use dyes with an oil based stain over it. Any sugestions appreciated.

Mission Style
The closest match I find for the mission color is using raw umber. I think I remember seeing that Jeff Jewitt's site or book had some recipes for color matches on mission style furniture. If you use dyes - I think the water based ones are easier to use - if you use a stain over the dye I prefer wiping stains rather than those minwax like oil stains.
