Hi all, I have been around wood working my whole life as my family made furniture but not until now have I been hands on. I made an acacia bathroom counter and I need help with the finishing/sealing. It will hold a double sink set up and yes water will probably fall on the counter. I have read a few place that the best thing to do is use Waterlox finish and thats it. I was thinking of conditioning it with pure tung oil first. Letting it dry. Then adding 5 layers of spar varnish. What do you all think? Give me ideas. I want a finish that I wont have to touch except for every year or so. I do have experience with spraying finishes and have a rig setup from the factory.
I also have an acacia dining table I am finishing. I am thinking of the same finish. I want it to look professional. Help is needed as I am new to this.
Thanks in advance!

Make sure it dries hard
If you use a spar varnish, make sure it dries hard. Most marine varnishes don't dry hard so as to accomodate wood movement.
Few varnishes are truly waterproof. Test whatever system you use prior to using it on your counter. A waterstained finish will not look good. It might be best to use stone or formica or some acrylic kind of top rather than the wood. There is a reason wood topped bathroom counters are very uncommon:)
Finishing
Waterlox is a good choice. You don't need to condition with tung oil. 3-4 brushed on coats will work fine.
