I made a wooden frame for a stained glass piece my wife made. The frame is 25 x 22. The rail & stiles are 1.25 wide x 1″ thick. It is made of red oak & with Mahogany squares at the corners. It is made to hang in a window to catch the sunlight. What would be a good finish? I would prefer to leave the wood natural and don’t plan on using a stain. I would like to emphasize the contrast between the oak & mahogany. What ever I use needs to be able to stand up to direct sun. Suggestions appreciated in advance. Thanks.

First, nothing is forever when it's in the direct sunlight. Wood color will change over time and the finish will be deteriorated. Your best bet is to go to a marine store and get a real, exterior marine finish. Do not use anything you find in a big box. A true marine finish will contain the appropriate amount of UV inhibitors that will protect the finish the longest. Be sure to follow the directions as to the number of coats. UV protection is dependent on film thickness.
Using a marine finish will inject some amount of amber. It's a function of the resin used in marine finishes.
After you coat it, keep an eye one it. Every year or so, give it a light sanding with 320 paper and put on another coat.

I would go with THAT.. Japan SHOJI.. Used fer thousands of years never used a finish ( I think ) I'm not sure but sort of sure...
