Hi there! I have a 1910 Mahogony upright piano that was stripped of it’s paint a number of years ago; it needs to be oiled or sealed in some way, at least to keep the wood from further drying out. What suggestions do you have for products and techniques? Thank you!

nellie,
It depends on the piano. For some pianos a simple finish of a few coats of shellac and then wax might be just right; but for others it would be a shame to do anything other than a couple dozen coats of hand-rubbed lacquer.
So what kind of piano? What style is the case? What kind of wood is the case made of? Is there any remaining finish anywhere on it that might suggest how it was originally finished? Perhaps most important, how do you want it finished? It maybe, after all, the largest and most attention-demanding piece of furniture in your house.
