For those chisels that aren’t on a mag bar or in tool chest holders or in a roll, what do you use for chisel end guards when they are in drawers.? Operational here is “loose” in drawers.
I have used old glove tips and the like and also some of those nylon tip guards that come with some chisels. I do like those because they fit tight, but they don’t seem to be available without chisels attached.
The 1 and 1.5 inch chisels are problematic with gloves. I don’t want to become a leather worker with rivets and French fitting is ridiculous for old but very sharp mismatched Stanleys, Witherbys, Bucks, etc.
What do You use?

BB,
I have some of these:

However, the pack doesn't have enough of the same size, especially in the range of 1/8" - 3/4", wherein one may have quite a few chisels of various types. And there's too many of the large size, which I ain't used.
Perhaps they are meant for carpenters rather than cabinetmakers?

Lataxe,Thanks,
great lead.
I'll order some. BB
Lee Valley has chisel guards also. Click Here. Closer than England.

Thanks for the pointer. After seeing them, I think I've had them before from somewhere else and they didn't fit well. If all else fails, I may give them a shot.RegardsBB
Hi Boiler,
Wine bottle corks on Mortice chisels. Just tap them carefully in the end before putting them away. I bet that you could do the same with smaller bench chisels.
Regards,
Paul
You could probably cut a cork lengthwise and tap the 1 1/2 bench chisel into the rounded side. That would maybe work.Of course, the bonus is that the cork is free however there is the initial outlay for the bottle of wine :)Cheers,
Paul
Paul,I think I'll try a few and keep'em in the drawer but I'm thinking a little less bulky and ya know you just can't keep those champagne sized corks from pop'in off.ThanksJohn
I found out the hard way that the LV ones don't fit LN type chisels -- too shallow.

I had that experience with that style also. DIdn't order them from LV though. Those old Marples grey things that I have - circa 1984 really are good but I don't know where to get'em.
Thanks for the reminder.BB
