I am considering the purchase of a trim router to trim using jigs and route mortices for hinges. I have the festool vacuum system so the advantage for dust removal is important.
The Bosch is $129 the Festool trim router is $400. Do any of you use the Festool for the purpose I described and what other uses do you use it? I have see several reviews for and against the Bosch > Did they change the router? Is the new model as good as the older?
Does the Festool Vacum pick up most of the dust from the MFK 700 ?

I mortise hinges with a RotoZip. Glued a 4" square base to the std base.
I have the Colt and I have festool (domino,1400, ct33e). I think you answered your own question with "dust collection is important". The colt is non existent as that is concerned. The colt ergonomically is not bad but not in the same league as festool. Thats just my 2cw. If dust is the over riding factor get the festool. If cost is get the Bosch.
If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it.
And if it stops moving, subsidize it.
I have the Colt and have been very pleased with it I like the size and all of the functions. My father bought the Festool and it seems like it does a lot more but I don't know that it does the basic things any better. A caviat I have not used it. I do love the whole modular system that Festool uses for their products. I picked the Colt up on CPCs factory refurbished website for less than 100 dollars so that factored in to my purchase.
Anyway a nice tool.

I would point out one major disadvantage to the festool - you can't see through the base to the cut you are making. Dreadfully important in my book.

First, I own two Bosch Colts, and have used them extensively. I do like them a lot. Used one last night on a quick circle cutting jig. That said, there is no comparison between The Bosch and the Festool. I also own the Festool. I have a hard time adjusting my Bosch, but can get the job done. The Festool is a breeze. Quality wise, the difference is night and day. (So is the price) You said dust collection is important so Festool wins hands down. You already have the dust collector so you're halfway there. The decision may boil down to how much you want to spend, and is the lack of visibility a real issue.
I have the Colt and several Festool tools, including the 1400 router. I use the Colt for cutting inlay spaces, the festool was not available at the time. I love the Festool router, however I don't use it for cutting dovetails because I can't see through the base and as Chris said the trim router is the same. I can see through the base of the Colt, however just barely. I find myself trying to shine a light into that small space and constantly re-accessing how my cut is going. Vision wise it seems to be 6 of one 1/2 dozen of the other. Had the Festool trim router been available at the time I would have purchased it because of the user friendly design and the long term usefulness. Maybe one day Festool will make a clear base and I can get even more use out of it.
Good luck shopping, Jim
