,
I have a client that wants a wall mounted sliding door custom made which presents no problem to me, but they would like the finish to look like “Wenge”. Dimensions are 42″ wide by 84″ tall. We are both afraid his design at 1&3/8″ thick and made from Wenge would be to heavy, dense and hard to work with. The door will have 2 rows of 4 panes measuring 6″W. X 10″ H. across with double glasss, incorporating “Rice Paper” sandwiched between the glass. Can you suggest a faux finish that can me grained to look like Wenge on less dense woods like Poplar or Bass wood? Looking forward to any and all suggestions.
Thanks to all.

Dave,
The best advice I can give you is to go through a few books with your clients to see what catches their (and your) eye.
Two of my favorites are:
The Art of Faux.
The complete book of decorative painted finishes.
