experiences with spiral head planers?
I am considering giving up my old Grizzly 15″ G1021 planer for a spiral cutter head model. I haven’t heard much about the spiral heads except the ad material. Does anyone have positive/negative experience that they can share??

I have no experience with the planer, but our shop just purchased the Grizzley 12" spiral head jointer. We couldn't be happier! It gives an incredibly smooth cut and we are budgeting for the spiral head planer now.
Are the blades true spiral or segmented spiral, and does that actually make any difference in the quality of the cut?

I agree with the previous comment. I also have the spiral head jointer and would love to have the thickness planer. Very smooth cuts.
I have the PM 15 S and it is a great piece of equipment. Smooth cuts at either speed. Easy to clean and has everything you need.
Very satisfied.

I have the pm15 and love it. I run curly and birds eye through the machine and never have a blow out. When my son used the planer I was out of town and he called and asked how to turn it on. I told him the green switch. "well, I have pushed that button and I do not think that it is on". He was used to my Makita planer that sounded like a 747 taking off. Great machine.
You can buy and install a Byrd head for your Grizzly 1021. Grizzly sells them. I have one one my jointer now just waiting for the knives to go dull on my planer
