I’m interested in hearing from others who have experience with finger jointed cedar siding. I’m wondering how the glued joints hold up over time? Since I plan to paint, I’m told the joints won’t be noticeable. Mostly, I just want to know they’ll hold up over the long haul.

Properly made, the joints should hold up a long as the wood itself, but I have never seen a finger joint that didn't show through the paint as a slight line after a few years.

I haven't used FJ siding, but i'm in the process of ripping off all the FJ trim from four pre-hung doors. More accurately, it's falling off/apart after one winter.
The FJ trim on my temporary shop door , with one coat of paint, lasted 3 yrs in So. Cal. before the FJs came apart, which they did during a particularly nasty and wet winter.
