I was just reading an article about a guitar maker that uses electrostatic finishing on their guitars. How does one electrostatically charge wood?

wear wool slippers and rub the cat on it!
were did you see this article?
I read it in Acoustic Guitar magazine. They were profiling the Taylor guitar factory.
Pretty interesting. I sure don't know much, though it is a process that has been around for quite some time--over a decade. The body is the negative pole and the finishing material is positively charged. Increases the transfer rate, and allows more even covering of convoluted shapes.
I don't even want to know what the start up costs are--this is an industrial technique. If you are interested in installing such a system, have your coatings engineer consult with the system manufacturer's engineers.
I just took a look at that. Pretty nice setup.
in the spray booth did you see the blue wire coming to it. I assume that wood will have a moisture content of 6% of so that would be enough to induce a slight current. You don't need much. Your TV screen will gather dust from it's electrostatic charge.I was at a luther shop a couple weeks ago. he is low tech, but the work was flawless.
I almost drooled over the woods he had. Till I asked the price!!!
Have a lot of respect for those who can take a bunch of wood and make music with it.Google. Peter Sawchyn in Regina

Don,
Great article - thanks for the link.
After about a 15 year hiatus playing guitar I started to get back into it. I played a $875 Taylor (made in Korea) that sounded better than quite a few $1500-$3000 guitars (other brands) at the local Guitar Center in New Orleans last week. Amazing guitars!
