Noting the horsepower ratings on compressors and other electric powered machinery, it seems that compressers that produce the same CFMs at specified pressures now boast 2-3 times the horsepower as those producing the same ratings from say, 20 years back. Did they change the method of rating the horsepower on electric motors? If not, man, is my old Ingersol Rand compressor efficient!!

It's called marketing. They are now rating "consumer" compressor motors as "peak horsepower" same as routers.
