I’m nearing completion of an Arts & Crafts Side Table from FWW 186 by Kelly J Dunton. I’m having difficulty in locating Ebony Dowel Pins which are used to pin the mortise and tennon joint for the legs. Do any of you know of a source?
Thank You!
Frank

Why not make your own?
Its definitly a possibility that I may undertake. And probably learn something as well.
Thank you for your response!

Dowels
Not sure what length you need but a plug cutter may help

Rare plug cutters
The plug cutters that make a square head on the pin are difficult to find, though. ;-)
Square Pins ?
Thought they meant round pins ? Excuse the halfheimers -

Round pins
"Thought they meant round pins ?"
They did. I was making a joke about those "special" plug cutters that cut round pins with square heads.
Pins
I know Ralph - you always make it fun; but I was just trying to stay on posters question in case he thinks we've all gone crazy -
Another post here talked about going to other forums ? I looked at three or four of them. One craftsperson was recommending 2 coats of poly to protect white liming wax - another recommended peel + stick veneer - wasn't worth the trip to look over there -
this site was always the best and even though most went over to the b%*(# - didn't want any poster to think the recommendations are off track by those hanging in - I see Steve + Howie have been by a few times - maybe we're building members back - hopefully !

are you sure
that they are round? they may be just square pegs driven in round holes

Pen blanks
I looked at pen turning blanks when I needed some Ebony for accents on table legs. I changed my mind and used African Blackwood pen blanks instead. Turning blanks, pen or otherwise, look like a good source for small amounts of expensive wood.

If you make your own
I bought some pin stock from McKinney Hardwoods a while back:

He's not set up for Internet sales, but calling is easy enough.
Hey, I had this in the back of my mind
And just ran across it looking for info for someone else here . . .
Bob Stocksdale made ebony plugs for Sam Maloof
Round, short plugs
But what the heck, maybe Bob is able to send you what you want. I have no idea how to contact him or any thing else. I just heard Sam Maloof say he made plugs on Sam's video.
I have worked ebony on my metal lathe including threading it with machine thread. It was fun to work. Seriously; no problem.
That's all I got.
Good luck
do you want ceylon
or gaboon? also have macassar and jamaican(cocus)
I don't think that Bob is going to send anybody anything. Sam joined him not to long ago.

Ebony Dowel Pin / Rod
Thanks once again! I was just looking to get a very small amount to pin mortice and tenon joint on a small table legs I've got nearly complete. I'm going to contact Mckinney Hardwoods and see what is available from them. If they don't have anything, I'm sure I can find something at the Woodsmith Store up in Des Moines.
Appreciate your help!
Frank
Ooops
Sid,
I didn't know that Bob wasn't around any longer ( obviously).
I should have put more attention into my post. It was kind of an after thought.
