I am having difficultly keeping a true alignment between the fence and blade on my DW744. I’ve had the saw a few years and loved it, but this problem seems to be getting progressively worse. Everything seems tight and i’m not running heavy stock. I spoke with a DW representative at the woodworking show a couple of weeks ago and they hinted there might be an engineering/design issue. I followed up with DW Cust. Serv. and sent me a very polite, but wholly uninformative response: can’t tell, take it to a service center. Has anyone else experienced similar problems or have suggestions for a fix? I didn’t find anything on this when I searched the forum. Thanks. vince

I seem to remember something about a glitch that was found in some of the early machines. Sounds to me like you got a canned message from DeWalt. Try working your way up the ladder via a telephone call. I'll check at WWA and see if there's anything at that forum (unless you already have?).
PS: Just breezed through WWA, nothing specific, but take a look at the first post in the following thread. This guy got superb service on a manufacturing defective saw that they'd issued a fix for.

Vince,
Have been using the DW744 for a while now and have experienced similar mis-alignment problems.
The fence is easily adjustable. Look on the back of the saw for instructions. Two bolts are loosened and the back rail is moved parellel to the blade then re-tightened. If the instructions are not on the saw then consult the owners manuel.
Once I needed to make a major realignment by "skipping a tooth" on the gear that moves the fence. This was accomplished by hitting the front rail with my hand while pushing down on the fine adjustment knob.
All of these saws I've been using were other people's and just yesterday ordered one for myself so I've never read the owners manuel. Neither did any body else so they bring there saws to me to adjust. Good for a sixpac!!
Could go into more detail but due to the latness of the hour and another ten hours to put in tomorrow......
Hope this helps.
Jack.
Try calling DW customer service rather than emailing them. I go the canned response that you got via an email on a DW746 problem, but they were very helpful via phone and fixed my problem.
Matt
Thanks for all the good advice. I too have had very good experiences with DeWalt customer service in the past and will try an old fashioned phone call. vince
PS--i have readjusted the fence before, i was just curious if anyone else was experiencing the need for this kind of a "tune-up" on a periodic basis. Thanks again. vince
