I recently purchased a dust collection system for my shop. I have a Delta 12″ Mitre Saw and am looking at that best way to hook it up to the D.C. system. I am looking at dust hood behind the saw as well as a connection to the dust port. Problem #1 – the dust port has a 1 3/4″ OD. I haven’t found any fittings that will connect this dimension port to my DC system.
Problem #2 – I was told that the best way to collect dust on this saw might be from below. Most of the dust collects behind the saw, so I am thinking that is the way to go…
Does anyone have any experience on hooking up a Delta mitre saw to a DC???…or if not, any “best practices” they would like to share for collecting dust on mitre saws…
TIA

I built a plywood hood for the back of my 10" miter saw, it worked quite well. Basically, it was about 8" deep and attached to the back of my miter station, it would catch anything coming off the back of the saw. I cut a 4" hole in the back and stuck a 4" 90 degree fitting in it to attach to my system... nothing fancy, it worked great.
I recently replaced this saw with a 10" SCMS... so much for the hood. I'm going to retrofit my miter station with a grill under the saw and the same 4" DC fitting, I'll have to build a catch as well. I think under the saw will work the best, plus it doesn't get in the way like an up-top hood can.

Just read your post. I will give you several ideas that I did to set this up. I did not have a DC when originally it was done. I was using a Shop -vac 5 gal. QSP vac dedicated under the saw.
Dust hood over and around the saw. A pull-out drawer under the saw that catches what sawdust is dropped. Can pull it out and vacuum with a shop vac afterwards. And a direct hook up to the vac or DC.
The 1 3/4" dust port can be conquered with a step adaptor. They make one that is available HD that will connect to the saw itself and goes up to 2 1/2". Then you add a 2 1/2" to 4" adaptor that takes it where you need it for the DC.
These are available various WW sources. I get mine here in Atlanta at Highland Hardware. Website as follows--------------www.highlandhardware.com If nothing else, buy plumbing connectors and connect them with duct tape. That what they make duct tape for (to fix anything. ha....)
Hope the pic helps as light was bad.
Good luck....
