What type of small dust collectors is everyone using?
I have a small full-time, one-man furniture shop in my carraige house which is detached from the house. Shop measures approx 22ft x 18ft (yea, very small). I mainly need a dust collector for tablesaw, planer, bandsaw and jointer. Only running one tool at a time. I would have blast gates to each and the longest run probably won’t be more than 18ft. I have looked at the Grizzly and Shop fox because of their price. I probably would want a 240V version so I can keep the supply wires at a smaller guage.
Would love a cyclone collector but I don’t have that much $ to spend.
Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks, Frank

Frank,
I have an Onieda system in my shop and have been very pleased with it's performance. I think they make a unit to compete with Grizzly but I haven't checked lately. Onieda is made in NY and their customer service is great.

I lucked out and got a Jet cannister 1.5HP from a Knots member for a great price, new in box. Much prefer the cannister filter to the bags. It's done a decent job for all tools. Table saw is the biggest challenge, as it's a contractor saw. Overhead collection the least effective.
Dust collectionr research should, IMHO, start at Bill Pentz's site. If you feel you've gained valuable knowledge from reading his research and recommendations, drop him a few bucks to help the site stay operational.

I recently put DC in my shop, details are here:

I have 2 JDS 1.5 horse with pleated filters(1 micron). One on each side of my shop. I also have Penn State (5 micron) inder a wing of my tablesaw. I plan on replacing that one with a small DC with better filtration.
I'm a hobbiest so my expectations maybe somewhat lower than yours.
I bought a ShopFox a couple of years ago while visiting an industrial supply house. I could not pass up the $210 price on the 2HP 220V model. Standard bags.
I've been very well pleased with it. 4 in pvc and flex hose. I can leave 2 or 3 gates open and it still works pretty well.
I use a 13 in Dewalt planer and the collector will eat the chips fine. The 18 in bandsaw is a problem but simply because I have not figured out how to "catch the dust".
I work as you do one tool at a time even though I may leave the jointer running while I'm at the saw or vice versa.
I use a cheap cyclonic seperator which works fine but any of it fills up quickly.
Good luck.

Thanks to all for your inputs. I will also take a look at Bill's site - it looks like I have some reading to do.
Thanks again!
