I am building a solid wood night table and plan to use side-hung wooden slides. Should I apply finish to the slides and correspondent drawer grooves?
My concern is that the finish will prevent the drawer from sliding smoothly.
Thanks for your help,
Jose

Other than applying a wash coat of shellac to seal the wood a bit I wouldn't apply any other finish to the tracks except to wax them with some paraffin or a candle stub.
In general you shouldn't use any finish other than shellac on the inside of a cabinet or dresser, most other finishes will leave a lingering unpleasant chemical smell that will persist for years inside of the piece.
