Hi Gary,
I’m new to cutting dovetails, but after practicing a bunch my results are good enough I’m going to try them on a tall display cabinet I’m going to make for my wife. My question is: how do you handle hand cutting (or machine cutting, for that matter) dovetails for a carcase with one long dimension? I imagine this cabinet will be at least 72″ tall.
Thanks, Jeff

Jeff,
For hand cut joints, I'd learn to cut them with my board flat on my bench. It's a different approach than having it in the vise, but you can't clamp your 6 footers in the vise and hope to climb a ladder to cut them. Too much vibration. The other approach would be to cut them holding them at an angle in the vise. The advantage here is that your tail cuts would be made mostly vertically instead of at an angle. Have fun with this. Gary
Thanks, Gary. I'll give both methods a shot. Back to practicing!
