I’m in the initial planning stages for building a CD storage unit that will hold about 2500 CDs. One of the ideas I’m considering is to make a cabinet that has an 18″ depth, front to back and is 6′ x 3′. I was thinking about making vertical 6′ racks which would each have a pullout capability much like is seen for pantry & closet racks. Each shelf level in the rack would have left and right side (2 rows of CDs) running front to back and, once the rack is pulled out, the shelves could rotate in the center to access the CDs.
Has anyone ever run across shelf or rack supports with this capability, particularly the ability to rotate around a center point?

Ron

No, Not with the pivoting part, but I have made one with the pantry type pull-out. I assume that this will be so you can view the CD's from the front, rather than having to step to the side.
If this is a free-standing unit, you better plan on fixing it to a wall. Otherwise, someone will open more than one, and turn it over on themselves with such a short front to back footprint.
You should check Haefele for the hardware. If this is for a commercial use, I understand, but for personal use, this is a PITA. Just making a stack of drawers will render the same amount of storage, in a more easily manageable format, with full extension slides.
Think of nested frames, where the center frame rotates on pivot points at the top and bottom. The outer frame could then be mounted on heavy-duty rollers - a pair per unit (close together), perhaps.
