Kitchens vary widely since homes in America can date from the 1700's until now, not to mention inner cities where space is at a premium. Just the same, Americans love their kitchens and they are often the most expensive rooms in a home. During my time in the trade, in the late 70's, early 80's, kitchens began to change from the simple and functional to the more complex with a wider range of designs and wider availability of choices. Since the 80's, I'd guess the average kitchen has about 30 lineal feet of cabinetry.
