Well I finally walked in the right barn last week. Been back at idle hoping to find a nice piece of wood for working my 2nd Bird Desk. Finally found some crotch walnut to get things going. Lots of planing to get these slabs level before resawing.
The lid piece stands 17″ on end but I need only 15-15.5.
Slabs were bookmatched 42 long 31 wide and 2.25 thick. They sat up in a barn for 12-15 years. The wood seems to have nice color as I plane back the woodmizer kerf marks.
Will post as things progress.
A couple photos to see.

Dan,
Good to see you back here again. I just got back from a week at Lonnie's for a class. We got a tour of his home and got a chance to see all (or most) of his pieces, including his secretaries (one walnut and one curly maple). Lonnie has hundreds of crotches like the one you have pictured stored in a barn along with several thousand b/f of prime, wide walnut. I'm guessing they are not for sale ;)
Cheers, and keep us posted on your progress. BTW, how about some photos of the first secretary?

Will get back and post some photos of the spring 08 stuff that went out the door. Worked like a dog to get 3 commissioned pieces out and finish the school year. Busy.
I am working in a different area over the summer and my computer with the few photos of the completed stuff is packed up. Sooner or later I'll get to it.
I am currently working sun up to sun down on a couple rifles I hoped to take along to Penn. at the end of the month. I'm not on schedule.
Rifles, grandchildren, furniture and wood hunts are eating up my time. Its all fun so life ain't bad.
