I learned yesterday from a Woodcraft rep that Delta is bringing their mfg. back from China to the good ol’ USA.
I was inquiring about a Unisaw, and the rep told me if I were not going to buy until fall, I might get a USA model. I’m wondering if it is manufacturing or just assembly?
Has anyone heard this?

Hi Greg,
Yes, I got an e-letter from Popolar Woodworking stating that the new Unisaw is to be built and assembled in the U.S. It was announced last July at the AWFS in Las Vegas.
To quote, "The saw isn’t just to be assembled in the States; the plans are to build it here, too. Delta’s updating a plant in Jackson, Tenn., for the Unisaw, and some parts, such as castings, are coming in from Wisconsin. "

Bob and Greg,
Is it just the Unisaw that will be made in the US or other tools as well? Possibly (but not likely) the entire line?Chris @ http://www.flairwoodwork.spaces.live.com

It's possible we might start seeing more of this, especially with heavy equipment like this, because of the rising cost of fuel. Shipping half-ton pieces of cast iron from China must be costing a lot more than it used to.
I own an American made unisaw I purchased new about 6 or 7 years ago, and was duly impressed with it from day one, so I had trouble understanding why it has been getting a bad rap as of late. Now I understand. I had no idea manufacturing was now done overseas. Glad to hear it's coming home again. Sean
