Have an older Delta 17-900 drill press which is telling me in no uncertain terms that it wants a new bearing ring. Has anyone done this? Easy or a pain and does anyone have any hints?
Delta’s manual and parts list offer nothing as to where to start. Was hoping to just pull the drive pulley wheels to get access from top. I know there is a key lower in the shaft line in there somewhere but don’t know if it’s relevant to this operation.
Also, is there a better bearing ring available than the one from Delta?
Or should I just pout some Marvel Texas Crude down there and let it simmer?
Any help? John White, Rick L, DGreen?
Thanks

To get the top bearing out, remove the spindle pulley and you will see a retaining ring that holds the top bearing in.
To remove the bottom bearing, remove the return spring mechanism and pull out the pinion gear and handwheel assembly (be sure to support the spindle). The bearing is behind a rubber washer and you get to it from the bottom.
I would just take the bearings to a local bearing supply and have them match them up .
