Hi all, I have recently bought a second hand 12″ portable planer. The problem with this old model is that it does not come with a dust/chip extraction hood to fit an extraction system I have not had much joy in trying to find this accessory on the Delta site.
Does anyone know if one was ever made for it?

Ridgid R4251 Miter Saw
The Ridgid R4251 was a pleasant surprise. It uses two articulating arms to let it sit against a wall. The mechanism had me skeptical, but it performed excellently. The controls are conveniently placed and easy to use. The bevel and tilt locks for working off of the stops were my favorite of the field. Its LED results in a nice, accurate shadow.

Yes, they made one. They are no longer stocked at Amazon though. Click here for a Google search, try those various stores -- someone should have it. BTW, the model number for the dust hood is 50-529.
If you strike out in the Google hits, call Delta. They really should have 'em laying around somewhere.

hate to tell you this - but I have a 22-540 and have the delta dust extraction hood - doesn't work very well at all. Even though I have a good dusct collector hooked up it jams up in minutes. You have to plane for a minute then stop and unhook the collector and clean the hood out. A royal pain.
If you can't find one new, let me know as I saved the old one from my deceased #540 12" planer. it is in used condition but it is OK.
there is nothing wrong with the dust collector hood design - the problem with wood chips jamming is with the blade guard cover on the planer. to get it to work without jamming you need to make a few cuts with a pair of metal snips or hacksaw on the ends of the blade guard cover - right were it is curved down. cut about an 1" or so in. then bend the blade guard cover so it is basically flat. this lets the chips flow freely. with the bent over blad guard, there is too much restriction going into the dust collector hood.
don't be afraid to make the cuts - you will probably never run the planer without the dust collector hood on top of the blade guard anyways, so the will be no exposed blades or whatever.
Hi, thank you for the reply.
I have a "slight" problem though, I live in Cape Town, South Africa.
If I paid for all the costs of postage would you be willing to mail it to me and
at what price can I purchase it from you?

Delta 540 planer
I was wondering if you still had the planer hood or the deceaed 540 planer?
59-359 Dust Collector
The instructions with mine say to remove the dust shroud before installing the collector, which replaces the shroud.
