Does anyone know of a source for custom moldings in the metro Chicago area? I only need about 10 ft.
I use a variety of woods, this one needs to be in red oak (file attached).
Thanks,

I have a moulding machine, but 10 feet is going to be cost prohibitive. The knives and setup fee will run you close to $300.00, plus the cost of the moulding. Ouch!!

I agree, that profile would be easy to make on the table saw plus a bit of scraping and sanding.
For the small amount you need why not run it yourself , cove it out on the TS make small passes and with a combination of router cuts and some hand planing and scraping or sanding you can easily make it your self .
dusty , you can do it !

Best selection of moldings I have seen and run from all of the better domestics. If they do not have it, they can made it.
Owl Hardwoods won't touch a job for 10 feet of custom moulding. They'll do the job, but for about $500.00. They have a minimum linear footage order they'll make custom. I get a few sales a year on short runs that they won't touch.

Re Owl Hardwoods: Understandable that they would not create knives for a 10 lineal foot run; however, my point is that they have a large collection of profiles already in stock and perhaps the gentleman looking for the 10 lineal feet may find something similar.
Pom ,
Even if they have the knife's of the exact detail on hand the set up charge to set up the molder would be a good portion of the cost even if they gave a deal and charged $200 which I doubt the molding could cost $25 per foot or $250 for a 10' piece .
I grind some of my own knives as well I use collars on a shaper with a power feed , some profiles take several setups , knives and passes . I grind by hand and by eye most big molding makers will use a profile grinding machine that works a lot like a key making machine.
When the exact match is needed and something similar will not suffice is when I grind or do custom runs for folks , often times here in my area it is for reproduction work in historical buildings and such . It can be a lot of fun but not much demand locally .

When I said Owl had a large number of profiles in stock, my meaning was that the profiles have already been run and molding stocked into bins-readily available.
That would be a stroke of luck to find it made in the right specie , send them a fax profile of what you want and they can tell you maybe .
We could of made it already on the TS and such , c'mon give it a go.
good luck dusty
