Any one here ever made one? Looking for ideas (do’s and don’ts) for making my own office chair. I want the functionality of the plastic, metal, upholstery versions, but I want wood and leather. I would also prefer to fabricate the entire chair (not including the lift cylinder). The other things I may consider purchasing are the main seat pan and the rocking mechanism. I’ve searched here for some examples or discussion but can’t find any.

Taunton has a good book by, I think, Jeff Miller, on chairs.
I will say that I have started two chairs and found that my skill levels were not high enough to complete them. I am on my third, now. Sigh.....
The other thing I learned from my two failures is this--you will need to make some dedicated jigs for angled joinery, either platforms to place on your drill press, or a router jig that cuts angled tenons. You will also need a jigs for measuring angles and making wedges (fussy work), jigs for holding the chair together for glue ups and for taking measurements, jigs for making mortises, jigs for template routing, and lots of quarter inch mdf for full size patterns.
I am hopefully on the right path now.
Regards,
Scooter

I recently read something describing chairmakers as, "the wizards of woodworking . . . " Makes me want to build them even more. I've got that Jeff Miller book and plan to read it on my vacation next week. I plan to build a sort of office chair, a scultped arm chair for my computer desk which is actually in the living room of a very small house. Good luck on your third chair! Your farther along than I am, who haven't even tried one yet.Brian
