Cummins “Truck Sale” Events
I just got a flyer in the mail about a “Truck Sale” event from Cummins tools taking place right in my neighborhood.
Never went to one of these before, but some of what they list looks like pretty great prices.
What’s the deal with these events? Is it a bad idea?

Don't expect high quality but some items are good bargains. Its a good place to get "disposable" tools. Most are made in China. I picked up some air tools and bits that are OK but not every day tool use. JMO, hope it helps.
Mostly junk. A few name brands, some refurbished, but all at higher prices than need be. A step below Harbor Freight, IMHO.

forestgirl,
Normally, I wouldn't even be interested in this kind of event. But in the flyer they sent me, they had Ridgid tools, some Makita and DeWalt, and some other brands I generally trust. Sounds like it wouldn't be worth it, though. Also, I just learned that they charge to get in.One of my pet peeves is retail events where they charge you to spend money.
"I just learned that they charge to get in." Holy Smokes! At least they don't charge when they come here. Weird.
My take is, you can get the same tools for the same or better price elsewhere. They really specialize in HYPE and try to create a frenzy that gets people to abandon their better judgement.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
Awhile back they had their sale at the local firehouse.I stopped to look, mostly junk and refurbished tools. I was there about 5 minutes and left without buying anything, this was a first time event for me,tool shopping and didn't spend a cent.

I am a rookie but even I know junk. I went to one hoping to find those "great deals" justa lot of refurbished stuff at high prices.
And... if the tool breaks down, who are you going to complain to? Their traveling flea circus will be five states away before you know you have a problem. At least you know where you can find Harbor Freight if there is a problem. SawdustSteve
Yes, good point.
I think I'll do something else that day!

I bought some vice-grip type clamps that looked rather handy for clamping up welding projects but that's about the only thing I saw that was worth considering. The clamps work, what can I say? Hard to go too wrong with something like that. Like FG said, most of the stuff is pretty much second rate even compared to Harbor Freight. I think you can do better with respect to quality buying at Home Depot or (shudder ...) Sears.
