Hi all, I’m having a strange problem that I haven’t been able to find anything online about.
I have a DeWalt 733 thickness planer that usually works well except for the typical snipe. Just this past weekend I started noticing that the exit snipe was heavier on one side of the board (the left side as you would be facing the planer while feeding). The more I looked at it, it seems heavier because there is no snipe on the right side, and possibly more than usual snipe on the left.
Has anyone experienced this before, or know why this might be happening?
I ran across Matthies Wandel’s (my favorite Canadian/ Engineer extaordinaire/ Genius) explanation of planer snipe here:
http://woodgears.ca/jointer/planer_snipe.html
After watching that I’m thinking it might be that the infeed roller is jammed or stuck on the right side, thus only allowing only the left side of the infeed roller to drop, maybe even more dramatically than if it were even.
Any thoughts?

crooked planer snipe
hey whats up i just read ur question and the same thing happened to me but kinda in a different way.i have had the rigid 13 inch planer for about 2 years ago it works well for me but like any machine they can go out of alignment, bolts can come lose and everything else that can go wrong with woodworking machines. One day i was planning some 12 inch wide boards and when they were going through at the very end of the cut the board would come out crooked which means when they went through as they came out they would make a right turn and come out of the planer cock eyed.at first i didnt think much of it until i put the boards side by side and one edge would be lower on one board than the other.I finally figured out my cutter head was sitting crooked.now evry planner is different but mine was pretty easy to fix its just one bolt on each of the screws that raise and lower the planner. Now everything is back to great.hopefully u can understand what i am trying to explain haha basically your planer might be out of alighntment.
