I don’t know about the saw, but i hate them I just bought a cool 12″ drill press that has a busted motor.
Can you hold the laser level while I shave?

Chayt1,
Aside from a very few items (the "zip code tablesaw" and older RAS comes to mind), I can find no compelling reason to own any Craftsman tools. Perhaps you can return the SCMS and move up to something else.
Good luck!

Craftsman has not been enjoying very good publicity for a number years. A neighbor was over here just yesterday with his boy scouts on a project. I know that he has several Craftsman tools so I thought he had a good opinion of them. After all the the boys left, he made the comment that "Craftsman tools are junk." I was surprised to hear him say that but not surprised to hear it in general. I sort of think that mostly applies to power tools, to to wrenches etc. Others may correct me. I have had several Craftsman tools but think I am down to a couple RASs (one, of which, I have had going on forty five years and a drill press.
OK, who said what to make this seemingly innocuous thread go belly up? Sheesh, weird.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
I just sold my "Crapsman" 12" miter saw. The adjustment to square the blade to the fence was awful. It was off an1/8" and couldn't be adjusted. Of course this ruined my cuts for my crown molding. I purchased a Rigid 12", will let you know how I make out with this saw in the near future.
I would stick with a proven, site-tested saw when spending the amount of money it costs to get a slider. Look around here or at Breaktime, you'll find plenty of people who've worked their sliders hard and know their strengths and weaeknesses.
