Who’s familiar with an older Craftsman block plane? It’s bluegray, the whole lever cap is “hinged” to lock down the blade and nickel plated, fairly low angle.

It might have been made by Sargent. They made one for Sears that had the hinged lever cap.
A picture would really help to say for sure, since Sargent wasn't the only ones making planes with hinged lever caps.
I had a Craftsman plane similar to the one you describe. It was a good plane, but a little too big for my hands. They were also prone to cracking at the corners of the mouth, from the levercap being tightened down too tight.
