I will be buildign a hanging cradle for some friends who will be parents in the next month. What is the best way to attach the basket to the stand so that it swings freely and doesn’t wear out? Any help is appreciated.

i have one that was used for my wife and her sisters. the setup is on the post there are threaded ibolts with a nut on the front and 2 on the back to hold it in place. on the cradle there is a s hook to hold it in place. has worked for over 40 years this way, but i do not know how they build them now. I do not know if this is up to the current day standards and i take no liablility on if you use this.
have fun building the cradle.

I used 1" hardwood dowels (cherry) as the 'bearings'. Put turned knobs on each end using screws. Also had two 1/8" thick hardwood washers between the cradle and the post so that the cradle wouldn't scrape the post as it rocked.
The 3 cradles I built were made to be disassembled so they could be stored, say, under a bed when not in use. 3 months is about all any one child will use one.
