hello. I am working only with hand tools. When making a dovetailed carcass and rabbeting the back, should the dovetails be cut first or the rabbet. Also, when the rabbet must be stopped , what other way is there to cut it than a chisel?

Dear Adamstr,
My suggestion is to cut the dovetails first, then the rabbet. And as for a stopped rabbet, I think your only option is to square it with a chisel.
