Rolf, thanks for your post. Your cabinet looks great and really shows off your craftmanship with hand tools. I particularly enjoyed seeing how you made your dovetails and the trim moulding. I can only hope to develop that kind of talent.
Where do woodworkers in Germany go for their woodworking tools? I was in Erlangen on business last year and the closest thing that I found was Obi. You sure didn't get your tools there! I hope to visit Germany again soon and would like to find tools stores where serious woodworkers shop. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks.
Regards,
Rich
Hi Rich,
Woodworking is in Germany not that popular as in USA or UK. I live in the region of Cologne and there is no store for woodworking tools, as you would aspect from USA.
There are two internet shops:
http://www.Feinewerkzeuge.de
http://www.dick-gmbh.de
were you can look for tools.

Rolf
Hi there,
I live in Belgium, region Gent, I think the situation in Belgium is even worse than in Germany.
I buy my tools with Dieter in Germany http://www.fine-tools.com
and my shellac also in Germany with http://www.kremer-pigmente.de
If there is someone out there from Belgium who is reading this forum, please let us know, maybe I am not alone after all.
Tony
Hi,

I'm in Denmark, same problem as Germany and Belgium. The interest for woodworking is almost non-existing in Europe I guess. Of course you find power tools in professional quality, but you only find the cheapest handtools. Ex. you have a hard time finding anything but the cheapest new Stanley plane, a big problem. Same problem finding decent wood.
I find tools on the internet within the EU. Buying from the US is far to expensive, heavy shipping charge and taxes when entering the EU.

Greetings. Is the import problem the same from Canada? If not, look into Lee Valley tools (http://www.leevalley.com). Otherwise, make firends with some Yanks who visit your area regularly and have them deliver...(I didn't say that).
Sencha,
Very nice work and thank you for posting the details....I am enjoying the review.
Can you share with us the wood type?...and the dimensions?
I did a piece kind of like this some time ago. I put a thick molding around the base to help with stability..
The wood i am using is Alder.
The cabinet is 80" high, 20" wide and 12" deep.
At the moment i am attaching the mouldings, as soon i have finished them I will post my proceeding

Sencha, thanks for the link. It seems wood prices in Europe are not very different from here. Rob
You know, I once spoke German passingly, long ago, and I can just about understand that. I was born there and have lived in Germany about six years.
Mark, I read your post but Taunton screwed up my registration so I had to reregister with a different password. Rob
sencha,
Great work! I especially like your low angle smoothing plane with the rosewood infill. What is it and where did you get it?
Thanks
TDF
Hi Tom,
The planes are my own design, further information at:
