Think your shop is too small to do really nice work? One of the other publications (PW) ran a nice article on Rob Millard’s one car garage shop. Once again Rob, you are a true inspiration. How do you do it?

Chuck,
I'll second that.

Measure your output in smiles per board foot.
Chuck,
Thanks. I have not seen the article yet, I didn't even know it was scheduled to run. They came out back in late June to take the photos, and I hadn't heard any more about it.

The biggest problem I have with my small shop is that I'm always walking into or around that blessed table saw. I'm now trying to figure out how I can hang a 10" Craftsman Contractor saw on the wall :-)

Will,
A few years ago my wife and i were looking a a house to buy and found a nice place with an unisulated tin shed out the back.
The real estate agent was extolling the virtues of the property and i pointed out the difficulty of finishing in that environment. She got a bit snappy and noted the house had an airconditioned longe/dining (Australians arn't all that into airconditioning).
I responded that I always tried to do my final finishing in the environment the furniture would be in. She looked at my wife with that raised eybrow look.
My wife's response, absolutely straight faced, "it plays helll with the carpets".
Couldn't ask for a better mate.

"it plays helll with the carpets". Good for her! A great mate is about as good as life gets.found a nice place with an unisulated tin shed out the back...All my house had out back was a chicken coop full of old chicken bones! (Long ago) I still live in the first house I bought.I don't like airconditioning that much either.. However I live in Chicago and when the hudimity gets about 90% I will turn it on.
My issue is 'FINISHING' a project in my shop.
Isn't that the truth! Just recently I discovered shellac (I'm a late bloomer) and its virtues. Dries fast, doesn't give dust a chance to settle in. That's been a big help.

Now we want your work in "Woodworking" so we can see how all that inlay and meticulous carving is done. Congrats. Paddy

Doug,
"ER never mind figured it out as I hit the send button..."
Umm, it appears you figured it out before you hit the send button, else how is it possible for this explanation to be included with your posting.
Kinda reminds of a joke I remember (vaguely) as a kid, about a mother's letter, sent to her son with numerous impossible explanations for why she did not/could not do certain things. I don't remember the joke, but I do remember that last line which was her P.S.
"I would have sent you ten dollars, but I already sealed the envelope" :-)

I don't think you'll find it on line yet unless you subscribe. This is as close as I got
http://www.popularwoodworking.com/articleabstract?aid=14803
I'm not very familiar with their site, I just read the magazine. Don't worry Taunton, they're only my second favorite WW mag.
Hey Dave, maybe Rob will send you a copy :-)
-Chuck
Thanks, Ill see if I can find the mag
dave
"Don't worry Taunton, they're [Popular WW] only my second favorite WW mag."
Second after WoodWorking, right? So where does FWW fall on the list? LOL
Patto,
Once you go to Chucks link, select Article Index and enter millard in the Keyword search box. It'll bring up the article.
I suspect you have to subscribe to the mag to get to it. When I clicked on the link it brought me back to Chucks link.
Regards,Bob @ Kidderville Acres
A Woodworkers mind should be the sharpest tool in the shop!
Thanks Bob
